Soul's Remnant Beginner Guide: Tips & Leveling Fast

New to Soul's Remnant? This beginner guide covers the tutorial, learning skills, stat points, quests, and how to level up fast in the early game.

Soul’s Remnant is a free-to-play 2D platformer MMORPG made by Chaomoon, launched on Steam on August 13, 2026. This guide covers the tutorial, learning skills, spending stat points, daily quests, and how to level up fast in the early game. The fastest route is to party up, grab the free dungeon ticket at level 10, and research every monster you fight. All details were checked on August 14, 2026.

Getting Through the Tutorial

The tutorial drops you into a busy starter area. Launch-day players reported tens of thousands of people packed into the starting zone (player report). Follow the Shepherd NPC’s steps in order and you will be through it quickly. The crowds thin out as you level, so push through the first few steps fast.

Why am I stuck on the first platform?

The first platform puzzle stops a lot of new players. To get past it, press the down key and jump at the same time, and your character drops through the platform below (player report). Many players stood stuck here on launch day because the game does not spell this out clearly.

What does the Shepherd NPC teach?

A shepherd NPC walks you through the basic systems. Press K to open the skill window and learn a free starter skill. Press O to open the stats window and spend your 5 starting points. Then kill 5 slimes, equip the reward weapon called Faded Innocence, and drag a potion onto your hotbar (player report).

Learning Skills and Spending Stat Points

Skills and stats work differently here than in most MMOs. Each skill levels on its own through use. Your stat points decide which damage type you deal. Understanding both early saves a lot of wasted grinding.

Which starter skill should I learn?

Four skills are free to start: slash, magic burst, ninja throw, and nova. Pick the one that matches the stat you plan to build, since slash is melee, ninja throw is range, and magic burst and nova are magic. Your first pick is not permanent. Drag the skill onto your hotbar so you can use it in fights.

How do skills level up?

Each active skill has its own EXP bar. Skills level up by use, so a skill you spam climbs faster than one you ignore, and every skill progresses separately. Bigger upgrades also need essences that monsters drop. Focus on one or two skills early so they climb quickly.

Where do skill essences come from?

Monsters drop the essences needed for skill upgrades. Higher skill ranks demand more of them. One launch-week player farmed level 20 mobs in Trapos for essences to push magic mastery (player report). Keep the essences you find, because every skill upgrade needs them.

What do the six stats do?

STR boosts melee damage, DEX boosts range damage, and INT boosts magic damage. SPR boosts faith and your MP pool. CON raises HP, defense, and HP regeneration, while LUK raises crit. Put your starting points into the stat behind your chosen skill, because that decides your early damage.

Can I reset my stat points?

Yes. Stat resets are free until level 10, and after that a small in-game currency fee applies. Use the free window to test different spreads without cost. Once you leave the starter area, changes start to cost currency, so experiment early.

Daily Quests and the 2x EXP Coupon

Daily quest NPCs wait near spawn. Their quests are simple and repeat every day. One reward matters more than the rest: the 2x EXP coupon. Plan your grinding around it.

Where is the quest board?

A quest board and a quest master sit near the spawn point. They hand out daily quests you can complete for rewards. One of those rewards is a 2x EXP coupon (player report). Claim your dailies before a long grinding session so the buff runs while you kill monsters.

How does the 2x EXP coupon work?

The coupon doubles your EXP for 15 minutes (player report). Do not change channels while the buff is active. Launch-week players report that changing channels wipes the buff, and the developers were hotfixing this bug (player report). Stay on your channel and grind non-stop for the full 15 minutes.

What are channels?

Channels split the crowded starter zone into copies of the same map. You can hop channels to find quieter hunting spots. Launch-day streamers used the channel system to escape packed areas (player report). Remember the coupon bug: swapping channels while a 2x EXP buff is active costs you the buff.

Leveling Up Fast

Leveling at launch is slower than in the playtests. Players report the launch pace is about a quarter of the old playtest rate (player report). Smart grinding matters more than raw hours. So use every multiplier available.

Should I party up?

Yes. Parties give a double benefit, which makes grouping the single best leveling move (player report). Launch-day players recommend partying for grinding and dungeons alike, and quests still progress while you are grouped. Even a random party beats solo play in the crowded starter zone.

How does monster research work?

Press B to open monster research. Defeat the same monster type repeatedly to raise its research level; at research level 4 you unlock the monster’s full loot list. You also earn a 5% EXP and drop bonus against that monster. Research every monster type you meet, because the bonuses stack across your whole grind.

When can I do the first dungeon?

The level 10 dungeon is doable solo at level 10 at launch (player report). An NPC on the northwest outskirts hands out a free dungeon ticket, so entering costs nothing. Bring a party anyway for the smoothest run. Reaching level 10 also unlocks leaving the starter area, so the ticket lines up with your next milestone.

Death, Fast Travel, and Life Skills

Three systems shape your daily play: death penalties, fast travel, and life skills. Knowing them in advance means fewer lost hours. Each one is simple once explained.

What happens when I die?

Death costs you EXP. Players report losing about 6% of a level, though the exact percentage is not yet confirmed (player report). You keep your gear and respawn nearby. Avoid dying right after leveling up, since the loss comes straight off your current bar.

How does fast travel work?

Warp statues let you teleport around the world. They are the main fast travel points outside town. Warping to town costs soul crystals, around 500 per warp (player report). Walking is free, so save your crystals for long trips and keep a small stash for emergencies.

Do life skills help combat?

Yes. Life skills give combat stats too, so they are not a side hobby. Pick up life skill quests whenever you see them, because skills like mining, fishing, and herbalism quietly add power while you level (player report). Treat them as part of your leveling plan rather than a distraction.

What life skills are there?

Launch-day streams showed fishing, mining, herbalism, artisan, cooking, alchemy, armor crafting, weapon crafting, and jewelry crafting (player report). Each one has its own quest line and its own ranking. Level the ones that feed your build first. Even a few ranks in a gathering skill add up over time.
