Soul's Remnant Echo Guide: Souls, Lines & How to Reroll

How the Soul's Remnant echo system works: soul types, echo lines, item level caps, rerolling with Turbulent Souls, and the color code for item rarity.

Echoes are bonus stat lines that roll on top of an item’s base stats in Soul’s Remnant, and a single item can hold up to five of them. You steer those rolls with Souls such as Energetic, Turbulent, and Ambitious, and every line’s maximum value is capped by the item’s level. This guide covers soul types, rerolling, name colors, and the level rules. Everything here was checked on August 14, 2026.

What Are Echoes?

Echoes are attributes added to a piece of equipment on top of whatever stats it already has, and the current maximum is five echo lines on any one item. When new gear drops, or when you loot Dungeon Passes, you will sometimes find glowing items. The official wiki’s advice is straightforward: fill your equipment slots with as many great echoes as you can, then use the power spike to challenge harder dungeons and trials.

How echo lines are generated

Every item you find rolls its number of echo lines from 0 to 5. Sometimes an item cannot have echoes at all; potions are the wiki’s example. You can never roll two lines that boost the same stat, and each item draws its boosts from a predetermined list specific to that item type. The echoes a hat can roll differ from a backpack’s, since each equipment category has its own pool.

What makes the fifth line special

As of the most recent version of Soul’s Remnant, the fifth echo line looks very different from the others. That is more than a visual effect: an item with five lines becomes able to roll certain echoes that can only appear on the fifth line. Auras, for example, can roll incredible fifth-line echoes such as additional skill points or even +1 buff slot.

What about Dungeon Passes?

Dungeon Passes roll echoes the same way: a pass carries between 0 and 5 lines, like equipment. The official wiki points to its Passes page for the specific echoes that can appear on them.

Echo lines worth knowing

Some lines are hard to understand at a glance, so the wiki spells out a few of them. Item Drop increases soul and item drop rates from monsters, chests, and rewards, and raises your chances of finding more and better echoes. Echoes Find makes items that drop for you, and items you craft, more likely to come with more and better echoes. Bonus Damage adds an amount of damage once per skill cast after damage calculation, so the lower your skill cooldowns, the better it becomes. Damage Balance raises the lower end of your damage range, effectively increasing DPS by making weak hits less weak; the wiki calls it the best DPS line on bags. Armor Pen reduces the target’s defense by a flat amount; the wiki notes it needs more testing, but it is definitely a DPS increase.

Item Name Colors and Outlines

Items in Soul’s Remnant show their echo strength through their name color and an outline around the item itself. Both are determined by the number of lines on the item and the quality of those lines. As you upgrade (and possibly downgrade) equipment, its name color and outline change to reflect the item’s new strength.

The colors go, from weakest to strongest: gray name with no outline, green name with green outline, blue name with blue outline, purple name with purple outline, and red name with red outline. Line quality uses its own color code on the orb next to each line, from lowest roll to highest: gray, green, blue, gold, and ruby red. A gray orb means the line rolled far below its potential, while a ruby orb means you rolled near to, if not literally, the maximum possible value for that line.

Item Level Caps Echo Value

Here is the most important rule in the whole echo system: the maximum value of an echo line is determined by the item’s level. That means a maximum roll on a low-level item will very likely be less effective than an average roll on a high-level item. A ruby line on low-level gear can even be weaker than a gray line on endgame gear, because the ceiling moves with the item.

The good news is that the difference between your current item and one six levels higher is fairly small. You do not need to hoard your Souls and Gems until you reach level 99. Energetic Souls become extremely common as you raise your level and kill higher-level monsters, so the wiki recommends keeping at least two echo lines on all of your equipment at all times. Strong gear early means faster leveling, and you will regain your upgrade materials faster.

Soul Types and How to Use Them

Souls have a low chance to drop from any monster, from a simple Slime to the most lethal boss. A monster’s level shapes its drop table: low-level monsters are less likely to drop souls, while higher-level monsters are more likely to drop every kind. For the numerical odds, the wiki points to a spreadsheet published by the game’s developer; exact per-tier probabilities are not yet confirmed. To use a soul, open your inventory and drag it over the equipment you want to change: dragging with left click uses one soul, while right-clicking a soul switches to a repeat mode where you keep left-clicking the equipment (right-click again to stop). Each use costs 1 Soul Crystal, and as long as the item’s echo lines are not locked, you can technically use an infinite number of souls on it.

Every soul type at a glance

Energetic Soul: the soul you will see most. If the item has fewer than two echo lines, each use adds one line until it has two; after that it rerolls the first two lines. Ambitious Soul: the rarer, stronger sibling. Adds one line per use until the item has four echo lines, then rerolls the first four. Transcendent Soul: adds one line per use until the item has five echo lines, then rerolls all five. Turbulent Soul: randomizes the value of one random echo line, the basic tool for rerolling a line’s number. Primordial Soul: randomizes the chosen echo line. Chaotic Soul: randomizes one random main stat value, one echo line, or the element type. Eternal Soul: locks one chosen line for the next 5 soul uses so nothing alters it; up to 2 lines can be locked at once. Transitive Soul: destroy item 1 to move its echoes onto item 2.

Transitive Souls destroy items, so be careful

Using a Transitive Soul means destroying an item. It is removed from your inventory completely, not weakened or changed. You can only use them within the same equipment category: a hat can only be destroyed for a hat, since each category draws echo lines from its own pool. Gem upgrades do not carry over, so you cannot stack an absurdly strong item; only the lines and their quality move. Line quality stays the same while the amount scales to the new item’s level. If you find a low-level weapon with five amazing ruby lines, save it and trans it onto a higher-level item someday. The reverse also holds: you cannot strengthen low-level gear by sacrificing high-level gear.

Rerolling Tips

Which soul should you use first?

Start with Energetic Souls to bring any gear up to two lines; they are the soul you will see most, and the wiki says they become extremely common at higher levels. If an item you like has room for more lines, Ambitious Souls fill up to four and Transcendent Souls reach the fifth. Once lines exist, use Turbulent Souls to reroll a line’s value and Primordial Souls to reroll which line it is. Lock a great line with an Eternal Soul before spending anything else. Remember each soul use costs 1 Soul Crystal, so rerolling is cheap but not free.

Keep at least two echo lines on every piece of equipment; the wiki recommends it, and Energetic Souls are common enough to make it cheap. Items with upgrade slots can be improved with Gems, which are separate from souls: Gems improve slots, souls work on echo lines. Reroll freely while lines are unlocked, then use Eternal Souls to protect the lines you love. At launch, disassembling echoes for materials requires Alchemy level 15, a change from the playtest (player report). Finally, the wiki advises striking a balance between staying strong and saving resources for an item you really like.
