Soul's Remnant Whirlwind & Dark Fire: Attack Speed
Soul's Remnant Whirlwind plus Dark Fire grind: Melee 28 / Magic 12, attack-speed stacking, duration echoes, and gear. Player reports after Aug 21. Sept 3, 2026.
Whirlwind plus Dark Fire is the current Soul’s Remnant grind loop: spin, drag packs in, and tick fire while you walk. This is a separate playstyle from “best build” in general. Wiki numbers below are the skill sheet. The 100% attack-speed and 10% duration targets are player reports from the Bahamut 正火旋風 guide, not an official breakpoint table.

What Is the Loop?
Whirlwind is a melee-category skill that also scales magic. Official wiki requirements: Melee Lv 28 and Magic Lv 12. Cost: 3 skill points to learn, plus 1 SP per level. Power 20 + 10/Lv. Mana 5.04 + 0.84/Lv. Cooldown 7.2s. Duration 3.05s. It hits up to 3 mobs, pulls them into your face, and grants +18 Speed, +5 Jump, and Shield 25 + 5/Lv + (0.15 × INT).
Dark Fire is a faith-line toggle. Official wiki: Faith Lv 35 to learn, 1 skill point plus 1 per level, 5.0s cooldown. It scales Faith 57% + 28%/Lv and Melee 34% + 21%/Lv, hits up to 4 mobs, costs 16 + 2.58/Lv MP, and while lit burns 5% of max HP and 7% of max Shield per second (cannot kill you; shield will not regen on its own). Damage +3% per enemy in the circle, up to +15%. After Aug 21, every toggle combat skill (Dark Fire, Divine Thorn, Star Fall) snuffs itself if you go idle. Aug 20 cut initial range by 15%.
Why do people pair them?
Whirlwind groups. Dark Fire burns the pile. Magic Slash (magic) or Holy Arrow (ranged) is the filler auto that also gives a damage-amp passive (player report). Cross Strike is the single-target boss button on the same kit (player report).
Attack Speed and Duration
Official wiki: a skill’s cooldown only uses its category attack speed plus global attack speed. Whirlwind is melee + magic on the category row, so melee attack speed and global attack speed shrink the 7.2s cooldown. Scaling from faith does not make faith attack speed haste the spin.
| Stat | Why it matters | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Global attack speed | Hastens every combat category, including Whirlwind | Official wiki |
| Melee attack speed | Hastens Whirlwind cooldown (melee category) | Official wiki |
| Magic attack speed | Helps magic filler; Bahamut wants it in the 100% melee+magic pool | Player report |
| Skill duration >10% | Stops the 3.05s spin from clipping; rings are the usual home | Player report |
| Melee + magic AS >100% | Bahamut target for a spin that does not stutter | Player report |
Those two percent targets are not yet confirmed on the official wiki. Treat them as a feel goal. If your spin still gaps, add duration before more raw damage.
Stats and Skills
A common Bahamut lazy split is 3 SPR : 1 CON : 1 LUK (player report). That is one working faith-leaning version, not a law. If you want the wiki scaling, Whirlwind’s biggest numbers are melee and magic, so STR and INT also belong on the sheet. Keep the 3:1 CON habit from the builds page.
Unlock order: get Blink at magic 10 for movement (player report), then push melee to 28 and magic to 12 so Whirlwind actually appears. Until then, play the beginner ranged or paladin kits on best builds.
Gear and Echoes
Look for global damage, global damage %, global attack speed, melee attack speed, and crit damage on weapons (player report). Orbs are recommended on that same guide. Element: Water if you are out of MP, Fire / Lightning / Ghost / Ice for pack speed, Normal for extra hit damage, Metal if you are dying.
Do Ice and Ghost change the loop?
Aug 31 reworked both elements. Ice Shatter now scales off the damage you already dealt to that monster, not its max HP. Ghost pulls enemies in gradually instead of sending the whole map skating. The grind loop is still Whirlwind plus Dark Fire. Those two elements only change how a pack feels once it is already grouped.
Echo cap is still 5 lines. Item level still caps how high a line can roll. After Aug 21 you do not need a new echo system — you need speed and duration lines on the 5 you already have.
